# TEXT TOOL

If you want to add some **notes** or **numbers** or your map, you can use the built-in **text tool**. It's pretty basic but it works. Kinda.&#x20;

## ADDING AND EDITING TEXT

There are two modes in the Text Tool: **Edit** and **Move**.&#x20;

* <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> allows you to make a new text by clicking anywhere on the map, or editing a text you made by clicking on it. It's also the mode that allows you to <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Delete**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> your text, change the font, the size and the color of your text, and add a box around it.
* <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Move**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> allows you to move your text by clicking on it and dragging it.

To **delete** a text, select the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> mode, click on your text, then press the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Delete**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> button.

To **change the font** of a text, select the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> mode, click on your text, then select font you want in the dropdown menu.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can add more fonts in [Preferences](/guide/introduction/first-look/main-menu.md#preferences).
{% endhint %}

To **change the size** of a text, select the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> mode, click on your text, then set the size you want by any of these methods:

* Typing the size in the **font size box**
* Clicking on the small **arrows** on the right of the font size box
* Clicking on the font size box and using your <kbd>MOUSE WHEEL</kbd> to increase or decrease the size.

To  **change the color** of a text, select the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> mode, click on your text, then click on the color picker.&#x20;

See the [Custom Color Palette Chapter](/guide/general-info/custom-color-palette.md) for more info.

## OTHER SETTINGS

### Text box

You can add a **box** around your text. Select the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> mode, click on your text, then enable the **Text Box** button.

<figure><img src="/files/yaSBpHYUrr4xMnyJgTyW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Then, some new **options** will appear. You can now choose between a **square** and a **rounded** box, the width of the **border** and the [**colors**](/guide/general-info/custom-color-palette.md) used.

### Sharpen Fonts

You can make your text look sharper by clicking on <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Sharpen Fonts**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> (applies to all texts at once). Mostly visible when you zoom in a lot.

<figure><img src="/files/nENSqdDJtXtcYssUD891" alt=""><figcaption><p>Sharpen Fonts OFF<br>(300% zoom)</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/IDIBThOaO3sLc9nudm96" alt=""><figcaption><p>Sharpen Fonts ON<br>(300% zoom)</p></figcaption></figure>

### Enable/Disable text

You can choose to display or hide all your texts at once by clicking on the **Visible** button.

## USEFUL INFO

{% hint style="warning" %}

### 📌 Good to know 📌

* You can't write several lines at once in the same text box
* You can't change the settings of part of a text
  {% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}

## *Author's Thoughts*

*The text tool is very limited and absolutely not user friendly. The fact that you need two different modes to type and move the text is super frustrating. I wouldn't recommend to use it, prefer a third party tool like Photoshop, GIMP or Photopea if you want more control.*
