# OBJECTS TOOL

<figure><img src="/files/LaL1IC3n3Acj09PFsnY6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In that tool, you will be able to choose from a wide variety of assets and place them one by one on the map. About **1800 built-in objects** are included in the software, and you can add many more with custom packs.

<figure><img src="/files/9uRHpPOSXaBgAhN4jOr0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/hiz34PKted4OJEVZk5lU" alt=""><figcaption><p>Left panel</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/3cbr6Zq8neuI4xJsTVXW" alt=""><figcaption><p>Right panel</p></figcaption></figure>

The **Objects Tool** is split into **two parts**, one on the **left** of your screen with **controls**, and one on the **right** with the **asset selection.**

## BASIC CONTROLS

* Select an **Object** in the **right panel** and click to place it on the map. <br>
* **Rotate** it with your <kbd>MOUSE WHEEL</kbd> (15° steps) or with the **Rotation Slider** on the left.<br>
* Change its **scale** by holding <kbd>⌥ ALT</kbd> while **scrolling** with your **mouse wheel**.<br>
* If you want to **move** it or **remove** it, you'll need to use the [**Selection Tool**](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool.md).

***

## ADVANCED CONTROLS&#x20;

* **Hold** <kbd>A</kbd> to **mirror** an asset before placing it.<br>
* <kbd>RIGHT CLICK</kbd> to **rotate** an object by 90° increments.<br>
* **Hold** <kbd>Z</kbd> while using the <kbd>MOUSE WHEEL</kbd> to **rotate** an object by **5° steps**.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Pro Tip:** *In the* [***Selection Tool***](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool/interactive-areas.md#move-rotate-resize)*, you can manually **rotate** an **Object** and change its **size** beyond the tool's limits.*&#x20;
{% endhint %}

* Cycle through the objects in the library by holding <kbd>🡅 SHIFT</kbd> and using the <kbd>MOUSE WHEEL</kbd>.

{% hint style="info" %}
For some reason, in the Objects Tool, rotations with the **mouse wheel** are respectively 15° and 5° steps, but in the [Selection Tool](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool/contextual-controls.md#objects), they rotate with 30° and 10° steps (but you can also [freely rotate](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool/interactive-areas.md#move-rotate-resize) them).
{% endhint %}

## SETTINGS

### Layers

You can select the **layer** you want to place your asset on, and also choose if the next one will be **over** or **under** those on the same layers.

{% hint style="info" %}
*Check out the* [*Layers page*](/guide/general-info/layers-and-sorting.md) *for more info*
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/qMhwTWMTrduUDmAuRlQ5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Shadow <a href="#shadow" id="shadow"></a>

You can enable or disable **drop shadow** for each individual object.

<figure><img src="/files/7rJpZu7P7fHIPHeVShJp" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/HwIpJ67xMm6kQe4NZRfk" alt=""><figcaption><p>With shadow ON</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/7y0miEPFuQ5Cr9602dyH" alt=""><figcaption><p>With shadow OFF</p></figcaption></figure>

### Block Light

You can set an asset to block light made with the [Light Tool](/guide/all-the-tools/effects-tab/light-tool.md). Basically, the asset will cast a shadow if it is in the light source's range.&#x20;

*Please note that the* [*light source*](/guide/all-the-tools/effects-tab/light-tool.md#shadows) *needs to have Shadows enabled.*&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/Pa4ph5toxJfPWNm0xQ3o" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/SzXnyIvplYWulwXf1ZCd" alt=""><figcaption><p>Block Light OFF</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/7UW6zUdyc9EZo9l3T0W3" alt=""><figcaption><p>Block Light ON</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}

### **Author's Thoughts**

*While this seems like an interesting addition, the object in itself isn't in the light, so it casts shadow over itself. I think it would have made more sense to start the shadow after the asset, so I find this feature a bit frustrating.*
{% endhint %}

### **Colorable assets**

Some assets are fully or partly **colorable**. By default, they will be displayed with a **reddish tint** in the asset library on the right, and will be accompanied by a small **picker symbol** on the the top left of their preview.<br>

<figure><img src="/files/JuT9sL4YVbZZHiUzyf0w" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can change the **custom color** in the left panel. The rectangle is a dropdown menu and the picker icon is a full color picker. <br>

<figure><img src="/files/gRkyKfF8ZdC97aLRpK9o" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
See the [Custom Color Palette Chapter](/guide/general-info/custom-color-palette.md) for more info.
{% endhint %}

When you select a color, you see all the colorable assets change in real time in the library. The placed assets won't be affected, but you can change the color of a placed asset in the [Selection Tool](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool/contextual-controls.md#objects).

<figure><img src="/files/jqSdNld1L16DgsLK4nx2" alt=""><figcaption><p>When you select a color, you see all the colorable assets change in real time in the library.</p></figcaption></figure>

## FINDING AN OBJECT

### Tags

On the left, there's a list of **Tags** that can help you finding an asset. Click on a tag and see the corresponding objects in the right panel.

<figure><img src="/files/stwm4dM2cIsulMKI3uN6" alt=""><figcaption><p>The "Cobweb" tag is selected</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/VsRvnB5f0gS7mvPWyuX6" alt=""><figcaption><p>Only corresponding objects appear in the list</p></figcaption></figure>

### Sets

If you click on <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Custom Set**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd>, you will open a **dropdown menu** with several sets of tags you can choose from. The corresponding assets from all the **tags** will be displayed on the **right**.

<figure><img src="/files/Ks0cvvS1yw8MlsYiucJu" alt=""><figcaption><p>The Set menu</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/kFMZxUwoLDtNknXDc8AX" alt=""><figcaption><p>The tags in the Furniture Set</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}

* If you're using [custom asset packs](/guide/introduction/first-look/assets-menu.md), the **Tags** and the **Tag Sets** might not look the same, as the asset creators are the ones choosing and naming them.&#x20;
* If several [third party creators](/guide/custom-assets-and-mods/custom-asset-creators.md) use the **same name** for **Tag** or a **Tag Set**, their assets will be **merged** under that **Tag** or **Tag Set**.
  {% endhint %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**Pro Tip:** Tags can also be used in the **Search Bar**.
{% endhint %}

### Search Bar

As for the **Path Tool**, you can use the **search bar** in the **right panel** to look for **keywords** (names of the objects). The slider under it goes from **Fuzzy** (inexact spelling) to **Exact** (specific spelling).&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/sGdSA4KZfjbaWJ0bcA3m" alt=""><figcaption><p>You must go in the "All" tab to find the search bar</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/o24saEqOiixj83QZzl69" alt=""><figcaption><p>In Fuzzy mode, "blood" will also show similar words, like "wood"</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/XipN1MztRq0mjNliMNSK" alt=""><figcaption><p>In Exact mode, "blood" will only show the objects containing "blood" in their names</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}

* To **start** or **refresh** the search, press **Enter**
* To **reset** the search, click on the **bin** on the right, or hit **Enter** with an **empty box**
  {% endhint %}

### Used Assets

You can look for assets you've **already placed** on the map by using the **Used** tab in the right panel.

<figure><img src="/files/ovymSIvhHJA3wtRjDSbA" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/D7vUKdceYnSP7LcQrLD4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
Be aware that the Used tab is not always working perfectly, and you might see assets you've removed, or miss assets you've placed. It works fine most of the time.
{% endhint %}

### Asset info

Since V 1.1.1.0, in the bottom right corner of the screen, you will find the **name** of the selected asset and the **pack** it comes from ("**Default**" being the **built-in** assets).

<figure><img src="/files/Lvs2hWe6wFFEvEN2W2R1" alt=""><figcaption><p>Pack: Default assets<br>Asset name: Log Pile 01</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/2fFJ4TbxiqWYFQO9EO4g" alt=""><figcaption><p>Pack: WFW Fantasy A 2.04 (custom pack)<br>Asset name: Sack Filled Apples 01 A<br></p></figcaption></figure>

## USEFUL INFO

{% hint style="warning" %}

### Good to know

* Since Dungeondraft 1.1.1.1, all the default [Portals](/guide/all-the-tools/design-tab/portal-tool.md) are available as Objects too.
* In the [Selection Tool](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool.md), you can access all the objects settings and even more
* Dungeondraft contains over 1,5k objects but some [third party asset creators](/guide/custom-assets-and-mods/custom-asset-creators.md) have much more, sometimes going over 50k or even 100k assets.
