Use this to draw custom patterns shapes, like floor tiles or ground textures.

<p align="center"><em><strong>Pro Tip:</strong></em> <em><strong>The X pattern a the top left of the list is plain color</strong></em></p>

<p align="center"></p>

### Shapes

As for the [**Building Tool**](/guide/all-the-tools/design-tab/building-tool.md#shapes), you can choose from **preset shapes** or draw your own using freeform mode by clicking on the corresponding shapes.&#x20;

In **Freefrom** shape, click then hold <kbd>🡅 SHIFT</kbd> to bend your current line press <kbd>DELETE</kbd> or <kbd>BACKSPACE</kbd> to erase your last point..<br>

### Edit Points

You can edit points of the drawn shape by clicking on the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit Points**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> button.&#x20;

* To **move** a **point**, click on any point of the pattern and drag it where you want.
* To **add** a point, click anywhere on the pattern’s border.&#x20;
* To **remove** a point, hover over it and hit <kbd>DELETE</kbd> or <kbd>BACKSPACE</kbd>.&#x20;
* To **exit** that mode, click on one of the **shapes** above the button.

<figure><img src="/files/9OnsBbOL4oRqF1UoWs7L" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Layers

You can choose the **layer** of the pattern before drawing it. Click on the **dropdown menu** to change it.

*Check out the* [*Layers page*](/guide/general-info/layers-and-sorting.md) *for more info.*

## ADVANCED CONTROLS

### Texture rotation

You can choose to change the rotation of a pattern before you place it.

<figure><img src="/files/bexkMZpiccB9TvfR3E2D" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/4XIhynuaj9TN0xxJ5acI" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
*You can rotate the shape itself in the* [*Select Tool*](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool.md)*.*
{% endhint %}

### Color & Opacity

You can change the color and the opacity of a pattern before you place it. The small arrow on the right resets the color to default.

{% hint style="info" %}
*See the* [*<mark style="color:blue;">Custom Color Palette Chapter</mark>*](/guide/general-info/custom-color-palette.md) *for more info.*
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/Vno3He8lwDmMTCSkziIU" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/gQWWm639hNY5XTUGBD13" alt=""><figcaption><p>Some patterns are only partly colorable, while some other (most of them) are fully colorable.</p></figcaption></figure>

### Outline

You can add an **outline** to your pattern before you place it. It might help turning your pattern into something that looks more like a regular [object](/guide/all-the-tools/objects-tab/objects-tool.md).

<figure><img src="/files/gTqaIWyWQB5WSizWsuE2" alt=""><figcaption><p>That button is at the very bottom of the tab</p></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="/files/npveHvshArva5R6ru7LJ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### ✅ **Pro Tip:** *Making a hole in a Pattern*

You can’t directly erase a part that is in the middle of a pattern, but a workaround is using the <kbd><mark style="color:blue;">**Edit Points**<mark style="color:blue;"></kbd> mode to add points that will create a hole inside, starting from the sides and opening your way inside.

## USEFUL INFO

{% hint style="warning" %}

### 📌 Good to know 📌&#x20;

* Anything that can be done before placing a pattern (layer, type of pattern, color, outline, rotation…) can be changed afterwards in the [**Selection Tool**](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool.md).
* In the [**Selection Tool**](/guide/all-the-tools/select-tool/interactive-areas.md#move-rotate-resize), you can also manually **rotate** and **resize** a **Pattern.**
